Meaning: "Inner Reflection"

"Shinran" represents a profound exploration of inner beauty and the transformative power of creativity. This artwork symbolizes that true reflection comes from within, even when the original source of reflection is no longer visible.

The Origin:
The artwork was crafted from two distinct elements of a wall mirror’s packaging: the main cardboard box and a smaller box. The cardboard boxes, which originally safeguarded the mirror, and designed to prevent breakage, have been given a new purpose.

The Process:
The process began by repurposing these materials. The outer cardboard box and the inner box were carefully prepared and reimagined. Old fabrics were then introduced into the creation process; these fabrics were painted and shaped to cover the cardboard boxes, creating a visually striking surface.

The outer cardboard box was transformed into a tall, elegant piece, while the smaller one was reconfigured into a complementary piece. The fabric, with its painted designs and textures, was applied to both components, adding layers of color and depth. The pattern chosen—a blooming flower—symbolizes growth, renewal, and the beauty that emerges from unexpected places.

The Irony:
"Shinran" embodies the irony that beauty and meaning can arise from discarded and seemingly mundane materials. The cardboard box and the protective padding board, once merely protective elements, and the old fabrics, reimagined and revitalized, now serve as a canvas for artistic expression. This transformation highlights how something considered waste can evolve into a symbol of profound inner beauty and creativity.

The Message:
"Shinran" serves as a reminder that even when the mirror itself is no longer visible, its essence of reflection and beauty persists through this artwork. It encourages us to look beyond the surface and recognize the inherent value and potential in all things, regardless of their initial state. The artwork celebrates the idea that inner beauty shines through, and that creativity has the power to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary.
